Hatoyama Yukio (鳩山 由紀夫), the new Prime Minister of Japan (as of September 2009)Because these kanji are ordered by frequency in newspapers, the kanji found are often of the type you'd expect to find in the news. 政, which means government or politics, is one of these. No wonder, then, that there's only compound with kanji from before: 国政 (こくせい): political situation, statecraft, the body politic.
政 has an incredibly long kun reading: まつりごと, next to the shorter まん. The on readings are: じょう and せい.
